SHANE TAURIMA

Shane Taurima is Kaihautū (Chief Executive) of Whakaata Māori. With over 30 years of experience in broadcasting, politics, and leadership grounded in Māori values, Shane is a passionate advocate for Indigenous storytelling, cultural revitalisation, and language preservation. Under his leadership, Whakaata Māori has expanded its digital reach, launched new platforms, and strengthened the visibility of Māori voices. Shane works globally to advance Indigenous media collaboration and storytelling sovereignty as the Chair of the World Indigenous Broadcasters Network.
Shane is a former staffer at Te Pou Matakana initially holding the role of Communications Lead and then in Operations. Shane found his time in Whānau Ora as a breath of fresh air and had the opportunity to connect with grassroots providers supporting whānau across the motu.
Shane is a current trustee and co-chair for the post-settlement governance entity for his hapu, Maungaharuru Tangitu Trust.
