KO WAI AU?
KIRI TAMIHERE-WAITITI
Ngāti Porou, Te Whakatōhea, Ngāpuhi
Kiri trained as a Clinical Psychologist at the University of Auckland, de-registered out of protest and launched into lifting Whānau Ora as a legitimate solution to decolonising mental health.
Kiri is the architect of Te Kawa o Whānau Ora; a kaupapa Māori framework that puts whānau at the "centre" of their journeys when seeking support.
She is passionate about the cross section between mental health and colonisation and bringing Māori solutions into our consciousness for healing; Kapahaka being one of those. Kiri has an extensive performing career in kapahaka; she’s been performing since she could stand. Raised in Kōhanga Reo and attending school at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi Marae. She has performed at all levels of haka and is a long-time member of Te Kapahaka o Te Whānau ā Apanui.
Dedicated to creating pathways and opportunities that empower te iwi Māori towards emancipation, Kiri explores platforms to best advance this like Whānau Ora, mental health, politics and social media.
