Ngāti Ranginui and Ngaiterangi
Janice Kuka is the current Managing Director of Ngā Mataapuna Oranga, a Kaupapa Māori Primary Health Organisation covering the Western Bay of Plenty. Her professional career started as a medical social worker within the Tauranga Hospital which lasted two years. This experience further led to Janice being asked to assist with the establishment of a Māori Unit to help improve the poor health outcomes of Māori patients.
Following twenty years of working in secondary services Janice then moved back into the community to be part of providing primary health services to Maori.
As Managing Director of Ngā Mataapuna Oranga Janice continues in leadership roles on many local, regional and national boards – still with the vision of advancing Māori health and wellbeing, more recently championing opposition of the bill to disestablish Te Aka Whai Ora
